The Executive branch has recently released an update to the 2024 Unified Regulatory Agenda which now shows that a listing decision for the Amur Sturgeon and the Ponto Caspian Species will not occur before December 2024.

USFWS Final Determination for Amur Sturgeon Delayed to December 2023

  • US Fish and Wildlife Service has delayed their decision on the endangerment listing status for the Amur Sturgon Acipenser Schrenckii, in part due to conversations with the Service, representative outreach and new scientific data submitted for review by the SIAA.
  • Unified Agenda update on A. schrenchkii
    • An update to the Unified Agenda was issued in mid-June, with the Amur sturgeon Acipenser schrenckii now listed for a final determination month of 12/2023.
    • The Ponto-Caspian sturgeon species are still listed with a final determination deadline of 7/2023, but we think it is likely that the listing decision on the Ponto-Caspian species slip closer to the Amur deadline this December.
    • The movement of the Amur deadline is likely a result of comments provided to USFWS with newer species data, and calls from Democratic House offices.
    • Staff on the House Natural Resources Committee have confirmed with US Fish and Wildlife in the last few weeks that no listing is imminent, which provides more time to continue legislative solutions.
