Information on The Sturgeon Industry Alliance of America Organization

Our Alliance

The Sturgeon Industry Alliance of America (SIAA) is a nonprofit trade organization representing sturgeon farmers, caviar importers, and purveyors within the U.S. and abroad to advocate on behalf of our domestic and global industry interests.

Our Mission

Our mission is to advocate for unrestricted legal commerce of captive-bred sturgeon and sturgeon products within the United States and across U.S. borders per the requirements of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). It is also our goal to update industry practices for enhanced traceability of farmed sturgeon products within the U.S.A., and work with international organizations to assist in the betterment and recovery of wild sturgeon populations in their native range. Consumer demand for caviar in America is currently met through sturgeon aquaculture farming practices, which is the most realistic and sustainable way to contribute to the regrowth of wild sturgeon populations.

Our History

The SIAA was established in May, 2022 to provide a unified response opposing the USFWS proposed bans of numerous sturgeon species that would remove the vast majority of available sustainably farm-raised sturgeon from commercialization within the U.S.A. In addition to the vast decline of farmed supply the sturgeon industry would experience, the ruling would put additional stress on the wild populations the bans intend to protect. Since its establishment, the SIAA has worked tirelessly on legal and legislative avenues of ensuring that the new rules do not cripple an entire industry and inadvertently destroy a means of protecting wild sturgeon populations from extinction by shutting down most of the world’s sturgeon farms.

Our Members and Partners

The SIAA members, decision-makers and board of directors are US-based companies and individuals who have vested interests in commercial sturgeon farming and the sturgeon industry. Our overseas partners consist of privately owned sturgeon farms and caviar exporters dependent on the US marketplace. The SIAA is currently the largest sturgeon-oriented trade organization within the USA, consisting of over 20 different contributing US members and foreign partners. All SIAA members and partners have common industry goals, but also maintain a focus on improving transparency in sturgeon product traceability and sustainability, as well as holding each other to higher standards of proper product labeling, domestic regulation and international CITES adherence.
